Enable Macros in Microsoft Excel


Note: For the Pratt's Stats Analyzer to work properly, the file name must not contain any brackets. If the file name contains brackets, please rename the file without using brackets.


Enable macros in Microsoft Excel 2003:

  1. Open Excel 2003 and click the Tools menu option at the top of the screen, then select Options from the dropdown menu.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Click on “Macro Security…
  4. Select “Medium” and click OK. It is important that you do not have "Low" selected.
  5. For the new settings to take effect, it will be necessary to close Excel and reopen it. Close Excel and re-launch your Excel application.
  6. You will be prompted to choose whether to enable the macro or not. Click Enable Macros.


Enable macros in Microsoft Excel 2007:

  1. Open Excel 2007 and click the Office button in the upper left corner of the screen. At the bottom of this menu, click the Excel Options button.
  2. Click the Trust Center button on the left. Then, at the bottom right, select Trust Center Settings.
  3. In the new window that appears, choose Macro Settings from the sidebar and select Disable all macros with notification from the list of options that appear. This option keeps macros disabled but notifies users when macros attempt to run, allowing users to decide on a case-by-case basis which macros to enable. It is important that you do not have "Enable all macros" selected. Click OK to exit this window.
  4. For the new settings to take effect, it will be necessary to close Excel and reopen it. A security dialog box should appear beneath the Office ribbon the next time you attempt to run a spreadsheet that contains macros.
  5. When the notification appears, click the Options button. Choose Enable this content from the options that appear to allow macros to run within the current spreadsheet. Click OK to close the window.


Enable macros in Microsoft Excel 2010:

Do either of the below.

Enable macros when the Message Bar appears
  1. On the Message Bar that appears in yellow at the top of the screen, click Enable Content.
  2. The file opens and is a trusted document.
  3. If you are still having problems, it is possible your macro settings are set to "Enable all macros." If this is the case, the steps below should resolve this issue.

Enable macros in the Backstage view
  1. Click the File tab. The Backstage view appears.
  2. Select the Options item.
  3. In the Excel Options menu, select Trust Center, then select Trust Center Settings.
  4. Select Macro Settings, then the option for "Disable all macros with notification." It is important that you do not have "Enable all macros" selected.
  5. Save the Excel file, close it, and reopen it. On the Message Bar that appears in yellow at the top of the screen, click Enable Content.
